Doris Burke is an American ESPN and ABC sports reporter and analyst who covers NBA and college basketball events. She has worked on New York Knicks games and formerly performed WNBA game analysis for MSG. Burke was the first female commentator on radio and television for a New York Knicks game.
Career
Doris Burke went to college at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. She played basketball for the Providence Friars women’s team for four years as their point guard. She ended her career with an average of 12. 1 points and 5. 3 assists per game. She left Providence as the person who helped her teammates score the most by passing them the ball. As of 2012, she was still the second-best in this category. She was recognized and accepted into the Providence College Hall of Fame in 1999. She was the fifth woman to receive this honor.
In her first year of college, Burke was the player with the most assists in the Big East Conference. She received awards for her performance in both the All-Big East and Big East All-Tournament teams in 1986 and 1987. In 1987, when she was about to graduate from college, she received an award for being one of the top female athletes. She received the title of All-American in 1987.
Burke started her job in 1990 as a person who gives opinions and analysis on women’s sports for her old school on the radio. In that year, she started working on Big East Women’s games on TV. In 1996, she also started working on Big East men’s games.
